What do we use for this service?
Diathermy for small lesions. & Cryopen for large.
Skin tags are small growths of skin that can be found on both men and women on all areas of the body, most commonly found in places such as the neck, underarms and eyelids.
Diathermy is a safe and effective cosmetic treatment used to treat skin problems such as skin tags. Diathermy is a bloodless procedure used primarily for cosmetic treatment of the face, neck, shoulder, chest and back. These are the areas of the body which get exposed to the harmful effects of the sun and the environment and more often develop skin problems.
Diathermy involves the use of a high energy current to produce intense heat which destroys the lesion. The area to be treated is sometimes numbed with a local anaesthetic and then a fine hair-thin needle is introduced in the lesion to pass the current. The heat produced destroys the tissue of the lesion and the lesion disappears instantaneously. After the treatment mild swelling and redness may result and this will resolve in a few hours. The superficial sore is left open and allowed to heal on its own and form a scab.
Skin tags are harmless, but to some people may be unsightly. They can be quickly yet effectively removed with Diathermy. This method cauterizes and coagulates skin tags through thermolysis, using a fine probe to cauterize benign skin lesions. A fine crusting is then developed over the next few days after treatment which will heal within a week or so.
Permanent removal is generally achieved, however it is not a preventative treatment for the development of new skin tags.
Your therapist will give you a quote during your Initial Consultation if more time is needed to treat many lesions.
Please ensure you have had a skin check by your GP in the past 12 months and nothing has changed in size shape or colour if a skin tag or raised bump!
CRYOPEN- What is Cryotherapy and what does it treat?
CryoPen™ is an advanced cryotherapy innovation that is a fast, effective, safe and new solution for removal of skin imperfections. Procedures typically last from 5 to 25 seconds, so you can be in and out of the salon quickly.
The CryoPen™ emits a fine jet of nitrous oxide under high pressure, which allows the clinician to work with millimetre precision. This destroys the tissue by freezing the inter-cellular fluid, forming ice shards and crystals which rupture the membrane, thereby destroying the cell. That means there will be no collateral damage to healthy tissue. It’s so incredibly accurate and practical.
Cosmetic procedures such as skin tags, milia and cherry angiomas are no longer being treated by many doctors on the NHS. With the CryoPen™ you can now have these treatments in the beauty salon.
CRYOPEN™ OFFERS THE IDEAL TREATMENT FOR:
-
Skin tags
-
Solar lentigo
-
Age spots
-
Milia
-
Warts
-
Cherry angioma
-
Viral verrucae
How it works
FIRST CYCLE – FREEZE
The applicator is held as close as possible to the skin imperfection and moved quickly towards and away from it. This could be from 1-30 seconds, depending on the size and depth.
THAW
After the first freeze cycle, the tissue is allowed to thaw for about 30 seconds.
SECOND CYCLE – FREEZE
Now the second freeze cycle will begin. The tissue will freeze faster than during the first freezing cycle.
RED VEIN REMOVAL
3 treatments minimum is needed. 4 weeks apart.
Diathermy is the preferred method and little heat is applied as we treat individually, 2 weeks post you will see the full result, some crusting may appear and mineral makeup can be worn 24 hrs post treatment to cover redness.
Some people tend to develop spider veins more than others. The fact is that broken blood vessels can happen to anyone at any age, including children. Your risk factors depend on the particular cause.
There are many causes of broken blood vessels on the face. They include:
-
Heredity and genetics. For unknown reasons, spider veins tend to run in families. Individual risk factors also increase with age.
-
Hormones or Pregnancy. An increase in estragon hormones, especially pregnancy can lead to broken blood vessels.
-
Sun exposure. Excessive sun exposure can enlarge your blood vessels. If you get a sunburn, the top layer of skin may peel and temporarily make some of the blood vessels in your face more noticeable.
-
Weather changes. Hot weather increases blood vessel dilation.
-
Environmental or chemical irritants.
-
Alcohol consumption. Moderate or occasional alcohol consumption can cause your skin to flush due to the enlargement of blood vessels.
-
Injuries. Minor to significant injuries can lead to bruising. With bruises on your face, broken blood vessels may also be noticeable.
-
Constant scrubbing of the face using manual scrubs or facial tools to cleanse that causes irritation such as facial brushes and silicon clarisonic type devices.
-
Vomiting or sneezing. Sudden, extreme pressure in your face from a violent sneeze or a vomiting spell can break the blood vessels in the skin.
